Drama in Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire

While Drama Education is happening everyday behind every classroom door, there are also times when Drama steps into the limelight. Be it within our whole school celebrations, our class performances, monthly assemblies or our school traditions, there is some drama education for everyone to enjoy. We are so lucky to have a wonderful school hall and stage, with great stage lighting and sound system.

Yearly Drama highlights include:

  • Christmas Plays and performances
  • Drámaí Beaga i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge
  • The Annual 6th class Musical
  • Monthly assemblies
  • Visiting theatrical companies
  • Grandparents' Day Tea-Party and Performance
  • And the sheer joy and creativity brought by integrating drama in a cross-curricular way!

The 6th Class Musical

Our 6th class Musical takes place in June and is a highlight of the 6th class experience. The musical gives every pupil an opportunity to develop, and in many cases discover their stage or musical talents. Everyone’s talents and specialities are welcomed and appreciated, including singing songs, dancing and acting out the scenes from a well-known musical. It’s safe to say that there is a huge sense of achievement and pride on completion of the musical. At its core, the musical is a lot of fun. But at the same time, the experience also develops character, unearths talent and builds confidence. And of course, they get to experience performing their show on stage for their families and the pupils of Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire.

This year’s production is “High School Musical” and we can’t wait to see it!

Monthly assemblies

Every month, our whole school gathers in our hall for assembly. Each class takes a turn at presenting assembly and it is a much anticipated event for the whole school. Each assembly is focused on a theme, for example; healthy eating, friendship or Easter, to name but a few. Every pupil gets the opportunity to speak at their class assembly and this builds confidence and public speaking skills. We also celebrate our pupils' achievements on the field of sport or in competitions such as quiz teams. Teachers' awards are also presented every month and these awards acknowledge acts of kindness, helpfulness, friendship, endeavour and more.

Creativity:

We love to be creative in the arts but in all kinds of other ways too. From colourful school displays, garden installations and activities such as our annual entry in the St. Patrick's Day Parade we celebrate creativity, colour and imagination! The school year is also marked by lots of creative events such as World Book Day, Big Book Breakfast Morning, Halloween Dress Up - there is always time for a fun costume and a bit of creativity!
