As part of our commitment to promoting health and well-being, our school actively takes part in the Active School Flag initiative. This programme encourages all members of the school community to work together to improve Physical Education, increase opportunities for Physical Activity and strengthen links with local and national sporting organisations.
Each year, we celebrate Active Schools Week, a fun and energetic week filled with a variety of activities that get everyone moving and promote the importance of an active lifestyle. From daily movement breaks to sports days and community partnerships, we aim to help every child find joy in being active while developing lifelong healthy habits.
Our Active Committee for 2025/2026 was announced at our assembly in September '25. The new committee was elected by class votes. This is our renewal year so it will be a busy one!

Active Week 2025
The goal of Active Week is to introduce children to a wide variety of physical activities, helping them to discover enjoyable ways to stay active and healthy.
- This year’s Active Week kicked off with exciting camogie sessions led by St. Kevin’s coaches. The children had the opportunity to try out the sport, learning essential skills such as soloing, hand-passing, puck control, and shooting.
- We also welcomed coaches from Boyne Hockey Club, who introduced the children to the fundamentals of hockey. For many, it was their first time trying the sport. They practiced passing, scoring, and how to hit the ball with proper technique.
- Every class participated in lively Zumba lessons with Laura, which brought lots of energy, laughter, and fun to our week while keeping everyone moving.
- Each morning began with a dance session to classic tunes, setting a positive tone for the day. Daily challenges tested a range of physical skills, including skipping, basketball, keepie-uppies, throwing and catching, and orienteering.
- A highlight of the week was the much-anticipated Teachers vs. Students dodgeball game—a firm favourite every year. And yes, the students claimed victory once again!
- We finished the week with "Dress as Your Favourite Sports Person". We had the great and the good from the world of sport represented, from Rory McIlroy and Charlene Mawdsley to Sha'Carri Richardson. Of course a few local heroes were also represented!!
