Active Week 2019

Our Active Week took place on May 7th – 10th. We worked hard to provide FUN and INCLUSIVE physical activity opportunities for ALL members of the school community. We wanted to allow our students to experience a wide variety of sports in our attempt to achieve 60 minutes of activity each day.

Wake Up, Shake Up

Ms. McKenna’s 4th and 5th kindly lead our Wake Up, Shake Up dance routine every morning to the song Cheerleader. All the girls enjoyed dancing and singing along. What an energetic way to start our mornings!

Tuesday 7th May

On Tuesday morning, our senior girls were treated to a visit from Fergal O’Callaghan who delivered a presentation on the envolvement of women in rugby. The girls all felt very empowered after it. Fergal also carried out rugby workshops with many of the classes.

On Tuesday afternoon, Lucy Kernan gave the girls an insight into Gaelic football. The girls thoroughly enjoyed engaging in these GAA stations that helped introduce and develop essential Gaelic football skills in the girls.

Rebecca Kerr carried out Irish dancing workshops with out infant classes. All the girls enjoyed practicing their 123’s 💃🏻

Wednesday 8th July

On Wednesday, the girls got a chance to try their hand at Karate. Many girls had never tried Karate before so the excitement levels were high in SMNT! A lot of fun was had.

The younger classes also had their turn at rugby on Wednesday.

Thursday 9th May

Lucy Kernan then brought hockey to Scoil Mhuire an Trócaire on Thursday. The girls enjoyed trying a new sport and the challenge of using hockey sticks.

Friday 10th May

It was FitKid Fridays to end Active week with a bang. Niall delivered 30 minutes of intense activity to the girls of SMNT.

Lunchtime activities

In an attempt to ensure all girls were reaching their 60 minutes of activity a day during Active Week, lunchtime activities were organized. Some girls attended a jiving workshop with Ms.Sheridan and a multi-sports activity session with Ms.McGeeney. The infants were also given equipment at lunch to ensure they were staying active.

10 @ 10

During Active Week, all classes made a fantastic effort at participating in 10 @ 10. This helped the girls edge that bit closer to achieving their 60 minutes of activity a day. We also heard it put a few teachers to the test too 😉

Everyone at Social Mhuire na Trócaire would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who made Active Week possible, especially those who volunteered from the local community.
