Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire is a Catholic Primary School under the Patronage of the Archbishop of Armagh. Our school is in the parish of Ardee & Collon. The Parish Priest is Canon Peter Murphy.
Visitors, parents and children know that we are a Catholic school:
- The schedule for a Catholic school is displayed at the school office.
- There are religious symbols and visible signs of our Catholic faith in our school.
- Classrooms have a Sacred Space that reflect the liturgical seasons.
Prayer in our school:
- There is time for prayer in every classroom at the beginning and end of each day, at Angelus time at noon, and before and after lunch.
- School prayer at assemblies, communal prayer time and liturgical celebrations are timetabled during the school year e.g. Catholic Schools Week celebrations, Graduation ceremonies.
- Important Feast Days are celebrated throughout the year, for example St.Brigid's Day, St. Patrick's Day
- We celebrate a school mass every Septemebr to open the school year and to remember and honour our Mercy heritage.
Religious Education Teaching
Religion Education teaching is timetabled in each classroom for the designated time.
Our teachers follow the Grow in Love RE programme. The Grow in Love books have home/school link ideas.
Religious and Sacramental Preparation
Religion classes support parents in nurturing the growth of your child’s faith. The priests of the parish support the school by visiting classes, celebrating masses and hearing confessions. Your child will be prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.
Inclusion of children of different faiths and stances
Our school is very welcoming and inclusive school, reflective of modern Irish society. We continuously strive for best practice concerning the inclusion of pupils in our school. Our practice is founded on good communication, openness to dialogue and flexibility.
Our Admissions Policy and Mission Statement make clear that we are a Catholic school. At our Junior Infants' Open Days we explain that our Catholic ethos permeates the whole school day and not just the formal RE class. Our Admission Policy states that we welcome diversity and inclusion.
Parents who wish to opt their children out of the Religious programme are asked to contact the Principal/Class teacher. The school then offers two options; (a) stay within the classroom during RE lessons and engage in an educationally appropriate activity (b) be withdrawn by a parent for the duration of the RE lesson.
