Exciting News - Meet our new Green-Schools Committee and read all about their for plans for the year ahead!

Louth County Council’s Composting & Recycling for Schools Programme 2026/27. We're excited to have been selected to take part in this programme, funded by Louth County Council, which will support us in looking closely at how we manage waste throughout our school and help us to make improvements to our recycling and composting systems.
As part of the programme, we will receive expert support and site visits to help us improve how we reduce and separate waste, recycle effectively and manage food waste. We will also receive a €300 voucher which can be used towards recycling bins, food-waste caddies, composting systems, tools and other supplies to help us put our plans into action.
An important part of the programme will be getting our whole school community involved. Staff and pupils will have opportunities to learn how our new recycling and composting systems work and why reducing waste is so important. The programme will also help our children develop their understanding of climate change, ecology, biodiversity and sustainability through practical, hands-on learning.
4th Class Become H₂O Heroes!
4th Class pupils will be taking part in the H₂O Heroes Programme, a hands-on environmental science programme delivered by the Centre for Freshwater and Environmental Studies at Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) and funded by Research Ireland.
The H₂O Heroes team will visit our school to deliver an exciting two-hour workshop, giving the children the opportunity to become young scientists for the day! The children will explore the importance of water, our local rivers and freshwater habitats while investigating the question: “How healthy is my local river?”
During the workshop, the children will take part in real scientific investigations, learn about water quality and freshwater biodiversity and, where possible, examine live freshwater macroinvertebrates. They will discover how scientists can use these tiny creatures to learn more about the health of our rivers and will explore how human activities can have an impact on our waterways and the plants and animals that depend on them.
We can’t wait to welcome the H₂O Heroes team to our school and see our young scientists in action!
5th Class Dive into the Explorers Marine Class Project!
We are delighted that our 5th Class pupils have been selected to take part in the Explorers Education Programme – Marine Class Project this year.
As part of the programme, the children will work with an Explorers facilitator to develop their Ocean Literacy, learning more about our oceans, how they affect our lives and how our actions can impact them. They will explore the fascinating world of our oceans and marine environment through two interactive workshops, hands-on science activities and their own marine-themed project, with resources provided by the Explorers Programme.
We hope the project will inspire our pupils to become even more curious about the world around them and encourage them to recognise the part we can all play in caring for our planet. We are really looking forward to following 5th Class on their marine adventure throughout the year!
2nd Class Become Picker Pals!
This year, our 2nd Class pupils will be taking part in the Picker Pals Programme, a fun environmental initiative that encourages children to take an active role in tackling litter and caring for their local environment. Through the programme, the children will learn about the problems caused by litter and will get involved in litter picking, helping to keep our school and local community clean and tidy.
The programme fits perfectly with our ongoing Green-Schools work, encouraging our pupils to understand that even small actions can make a big difference. By taking responsibility for their surroundings, reducing litter and learning how to dispose of waste correctly, our Picker Pals will be helping to protect wildlife, improve our environment and make our community a cleaner and greener place. We are looking forward to seeing our 2nd Class Picker Pals in action throughout the year!
